Free training about rights and obligations under the Fair Housing Act will be provided today in Coeur d'Alene.

The training will take place from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. at the Coeur d'Alene Public Library, 702 E. Front Ave.

Offered by the Intermountain Fair Housing Council and funded with a grant from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, the information is aimed at consumers, housing providers, real estate agents and housing advocates who may have questions about the Fair Housing Act and how it pertains to them.

For more information or to register: www.1.usa.gov/1mhQl4D

Idahoans also have a new online resource to help them understand the Fair Housing Act. Four animated videos commissioned by Idaho Housing and Finance Association help viewers understand the basics of fair housing, recognize discrimination, report possible violations and promote accessibility. The videos, in English and Spanish, are available at idahohousing.com (search for "fair housing videos") and fairhousingforum.org.

• Man sentenced for throat slashing attack

GOODING (AP) - A south-central Idaho man who slashed another man's throat and left him for dead has been sentenced to 15 years in prison.

The Times-News reports that 30-year-old Ryan Cunningham of Wendell received the sentence Tuesday in 5th District Court after pleading guilty to felony aggravated battery.

Police say 49-year-old Thomas Hooley used a stun gun on 31-year-old Jason Given of Blackfoot on July 13. Police say that Hooley and Cunningham also ran a blade over Given's neck twice.

Hooley is charged with first-degree kidnapping and being an accessory to aggravated battery. His trial is set for May 7.
