A foolish flock of flamingos
POST FALLS - Post Falls Mayor Ron Jacobson woke up Tuesday to find that his front yard had been invaded by a flock of pink flamingos.
The flamingos were placed on Jacobson's lawn by Post Falls Kiwanians in an effort to raise money to support kids programs and scholarships in the community.
In a press release, the organization called the project "a way to tickle your non-feathered friends." For a donation of $20 to $50, residents can select a friend or family member of their choice to wake up to a flock of flamingos in their front yard.
"What better way to celebrate the arrival of spring and the end of the 'endless winter blues' than with a flock of bright pink birds decorating your neighbor's lawn for a day," the press release states.
The flamingo fundraiser will last until the end of April.
Last year, the Post Falls Kiwanis Club raised $1,500, which was used to purchase gloves for elementary school students in the Post Falls School District. The gloves were distributed to teachers, who then identify kids who need them.
In addition to the gloves program, the organization gave $6,000 in scholarships to Post Falls college-bound high school students.
