NEGATIVE: Look at the bright side

| September 25, 2013 9:00 PM

I moved to Hayden in 1997 and one of the things that has impressed me since is the generous and helpful nature of a majority of the citizens. Sure, there are some who do not measure up to that standard as might be expected in any group exceeding 50,000 folks.

I was disappointed to read the negative letters in Wednesday’s Press from Anne Sedgwick and the Kildows. First, if storm warnings were not distributed (weather forecasting is not an exact science) and a really damaging storm developed there would be major criticism of the weather forecasters and the media. Better to over do the distribution (not all folks watch the TV for hours) than to shortchange it. Was it so disturbing to see the reports several times? Not to me.

As for the hydro boat races, sure they were noisy and the traffic caused some slow conditions but at the same time caused some pleasure and fun for a lot of folks. Were any permanent changes made that would be unpopular? Not that I know of.

Were the temporary traffic and noise problems so bad that the races should be cancelled in the future? Is asking some of the residents affected by the races to accept these temporary aggravations an unreasonable request in light of the positives they bring to the community? My opinion is no.

I would like to see more people with a less critical, easier going, less self-centered attitude.
