Volunteers sought to help seniors with taxes

| September 24, 2013 9:00 PM

COEUR d'ALENE - Volunteers are being sought to help low to moderate income senior citizens with their taxes next year.

The American Association of Retired Persons sponsors a tax aide program to help low to moderate income seniors file their income taxes each year. Just last year, 5,500 seniors from Kootenai and Shoshone counties received help from the program to complete and file their federal and state tax returns at no cost.

Organizers are seeking computer-literate volunteers to help for this upcoming tax season to keep up with the demand. Volunteers will be trained starting in October.

Organizers are also seeking client facilitators, for those who just want to help out.
