CASA Uncorked event Thursday in Cd'A

CASA Uncorked, a benefit to support the North Idaho CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) program, will take place Thursday from 6-8 p.m. at Coeur d'Alene Cellars, 3890 N. Schreiber Way, Coeur d'Alene.

The nonprofit CASA recruits, trains and supports volunteers who serve as advocates in court for abused and neglected children in Idaho's five northern counties.

"Our vision is to ensure that every child in Idaho's First Judicial District lives in a safe, healthy and nurturing family environment," said Sharmon Schmitt, North Idaho CASA board president, in a message to The Press. "Our program is appointed to every abuse, neglect, or abandonment case in the First Judicial District."

The agency's resources are down, Schmitt said, as they continue to experience an increase in the number of children requiring CASA's services.

CASA is court-mandated, and receives grant funding, but relies heavily on donations in order to stay operational.

"We are thankful for volunteers; however, we need funds to allow us to continue this much needed service in North Idaho," Schmitt wrote. The CASA Uncorked event will feature a live and silent auction, and wine and hors d'oeuvres will be served. Auction items include a week stay in a Hawaiian condo, an 1899 vintage firearm and a Wrigley Field Rooftop trip, that includes game tickets, airfare and lodging.

CASA Uncorked tickets are $50 per person and can be purchased at the door or by calling Development Director Christen Peterson, 667-9165.
