After the collapse of 2008

You'll know it if you see Joe and Barbara Lane.

They'll be the couple traveling through North Idaho today on a motorcycle that is pulling a trailer with a German shepherd in it. They're scheduled to arrive in the Lake City this afternoon, and will remain in town on Tuesday.

The Lanes are working on a documentary film about how the financial collapse of 2008 changed the lives of everyday Americans, and Coeur d'Alene is one of dozens of stops they are making this month on a cross-country trip from New York to Bellingham, Wash.

They want to speak with as many people as they can while they're in Coeur d'Alene.

"The American economy collapsed in 2008 and many millions of Americans have not been the same since. Their stories have been pushed aside as 'business as usual' returned to the U.S.," writes Joe, on the couple's website, aftershockamerica.com. "The elites have more than recovered their footing. What about the rest of us? An incredible number of citizens have lost their homes. Many are still out of work, and face a bleak future."

The film project, "Aftershock America," was generated by a novel Joe Lane wrote about the economic implosion and its implications. Published by Bancroft Press, the book is scheduled for release in January.

Barbara and Joe returned home to the United States earlier this year after living for several years in China. They had not expected to find so many Americans still reeling from the 2008 economic disaster.

According to their website, the Lanes want to give everyday people the chance to be heard: "Only when ordinary people speak out, and are listened to, will we be able to bring an end to the economic tyranny of political and financial elite."
