Twin Falls man convicted of shooting brother

TWIN FALLS - A Twin Falls man has been found guilty of shooting his brother.

The Times-News reported that a 5th District Court jury on Friday convicted 31-year-old Juan Roberto Jimenez of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon for shooting Jorge Alvarado on Feb. 9 in Twin Falls.

Jimenez said he acted in self-defense.

The jury also found Jimenez to be a persistent violator with three felony convictions.

In 2000 he was convicted of burglary, and in 2003 of grand theft by possession of stolen property.

Jimenez is also scheduled to go on trial in December on three counts of lewd and lascivious conduct after police say he raped a 14-year-old girl.

District Judge Randy Stoker revoked Jimenez's bond following the jury's verdict.

Nuclear facility reports small fire in building

ARCO - Officials at a southeastern Idaho nuclear facility said there was no release of radiation and there's no risk to the public following a fire.

Idaho National Laboratory officials said a small fire in a building at the Advanced Mixed Waste Treatment Project on Friday was declared extinguished just before 9 p.m.

Authorities said it's unclear how many workers had to be evacuated from building 676 because of the fire.

Former hospital director to stand trial

BLACKFOOT - A southeast Idaho district court judge entered a not guilty plea on behalf of a former information technology director at Bingham Memorial Hospital who chose to remain silent in court.

Jack York appeared in 7th District Court Friday facing three felony counts of interception of wire, electronic or oral communication.

Authorities said York recorded telephone calls made by former hospital director Robert Rosin and staff. The wiretapping allegedly occurred between June 2009 and August 2010.
