SAMMAMISH, Wash. - Freshman Harley Kirsch hit Devon Arbis-Jackson on a 10-yard touchdown pass with 40 seconds remaining to give the Eastside Catholic Crusaders a 34-30 nonleague win against the visiting Lake City Timberwolves on Friday night.

Lake City drove down the field in the final seconds, but were unable to come up with the Hail Mary pass in the end zone to end the game.

"We just missed the tip," Lake City coach Van Troxel said. "It was a really good, entertaining high school football game. But we made too many mistakes blocking and tackling tonight."

Lake City (2-2) travels to Post Falls next Friday to open 5A Inland Empire League play.

Henry Jarvis ran for a pair of touchdown scores to get Eastside Catholic (2-1) back into the game after trailing 16-13 at halftime.

"We had a hard time tackling him," Troxel said. "He was a horse for them. The kids played hard all the way around and in the long run, it could be one of those games we didn't win, but learned a whole lot from it - and then you look back and say it's a successful trip. Our offense looked good at times and quick, but we just need to continue to improve and get better on both sides of the ball."

SPIRIT LAKE - Timberlake led 22-21 in the fourth quarter, but fumbled the kickoff return after Colville went ahead, 29-22.

With three minutes left in the nonleague game, Tigers linebacker Quinton Reese recovered a fumble and returned it 60 yards for a touchdown for the one-point lead.

However, Colville scored on a 1-yard run to move ahead for good.

"It was heartbreaking to lose that game," Timberlake coach Roy Albertson said. "The kids made a valiant comeback (attempt), but in the end, we were leading with three minutes to go. And we let them move all the way down the field and score on us."

Timberlake (2-1) was led in rushing by Daniel Buck, who carried the ball 19 times for 71 yards and a touchdown.

Colville (2-1) led 21-0 in the first half.

"We didn't wake up until we were down three touchdowns," Albertson said. "You can't spot teams those kind of points, because it takes so much energy to get them back again. We've been plagued for the last couple of years with spotting teams a lead and then trying to come back."

Timberlake travels to Sandpoint next Friday.

DEER PARK - Playing for a field goal, quarterback Luke Feasline hit Josh Richmond on a 13 yard touchdown pass for the go-ahead score with 25 seconds remaining to lead the Lumberjacks past the Stags in a nonleague game.

"Luke really kept that drive going with his legs," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "We were playing for a field goal at that point, but we got a good look defensively and Josh did a great job of beating the coverage and Luke did a great job of getting the ball out on time."

Feasline had 237 yards passing and another 62 rushing for St. Maries (2-1), which travels to Kellogg on Friday. St. Maries beat Kellogg 48-7 to open the season on Aug. 30 in St. Maries.

"Our kids did a great job of playing the field position battle and forcing turnovers," said Tefft, whose team forced five turnovers in the game. "Jacob Greer did a great job of punting the ball for us and it turned out to be a really big deal at the end of the night."

"It was a good night for us," Kootenai coach Doug Napierala said. "It started out a little rocky for both teams, but defensively we did a great job and created a short field for our offense all night. Our receiver ran good routes and Jake was on the money tonight. We finally had a good executed game for the most part."
