Civil War presentation to kick off speaker series

| September 21, 2013 9:00 PM

POST FALLS - "Abe Lincoln, Mark Twain and the Civil War," a live presentation, will kick off the Frank Henderson Speaker Series on Monday, Sept. 30, at 7 p.m. at the Post Falls Library, 821 N. Spokane St.

The event is free and there is no need to RSVP.

Impersonator Dave Ehlert will play Twain and Lincoln in his one-man production that explores how a Union president and a Confederate deserter fought against slavery and racism in the pre- and post-war days.

The 90-minute performance contains props and period costumes. Ehlert performs in Branson, Mo., and takes his portrayals on the road from coast to coast.

The speaker series is made possible through a gift from the Henderson family to the Post Falls Library Foundation. The family's $2,550 contribution was in honor of legislator Frank Henderson's 90th birthday.

Pat Raffee, foundation president, is thrilled about the series.

"Frank has been a solid supporter of the Post Falls Library," Raffee said. "He has made grant funds available for children's books and in 2010 dedicated the Lillian Henderson Children's Library in honor of his late wife."

More programs are to be scheduled as part of the series that reflect Henderson's many interests, including history, nature, eagles, tulips, travel, Boy Scouts and remote control airplanes.

There will be four more programs, but dates and topics haven't been finalized.
