Post Falls and Spirit Lake residents will have opportunities to meet their city candidates in the Nov. 5 election.

In Post Falls, the city will host a candidate forum on Thursday, Oct. 10, at City Hall from 7-9 p.m.

Each of the candidates will be asked questions submitted by individuals to be selected from the community. A forum on each race will be held separately so candidates of other races can't hear the questions in advance.

There will be no questions from the audience as the forum will be broadcast live on City Cable Channel 13. The forum will be rebroadcast on Nov. 4.

The video will also be available as Video On Demand at www.postfallsidaho.org.

"City Cable 13 has done these forums since we started broadcasting so that citizens have an opportunity to attend, watch it on cable or see it on the website to learn more about the issues and where the candidates stand on them," said Kit Hoffer, city spokeswoman.

The Post Falls Chamber of Commerce's Local Issues Committee will host a meet and greet with the candidates on Thursday, Oct. 24, from 4:30-6 p.m. at the chamber building.

Chamber CEO Pam Houser said it's an informal opportunity for the public to meet its candidates and ask them questions.

The chamber ambassadors will host their annual soup cookoff outside on the chamber patio from 4-7 p.m. Cost for the soup and chili is $5.

Current city council members Kerri Thoreson and Ron Jacobson are running for mayor. Clay Larkin decided to not seek re-election.

Joe Bodman, Jim Hail, Barry Rubin and Alan Wolfe are seeking council seat No. 2 held by Jacobson. Jayson Cornwell and Christi Fleischman are challenging Betty Ann Henderson for seat No. 4.

In Spirit Lake, the chamber of commerce will host a "Meet the Candidates" event on Saturday, Oct. 12, from 1-4 p.m. at the senior center, 32564 N. Fourth Ave. The public is invited.

Jeanne Bruner, chamber president, said the candidates will speak about themselves and issues facing the community.

Attendees will have an opportunity to ask the candidates questions individually after the candidates speak.

"The candidates will be seated at their own tables so people can go directly to them for information or ask questions," Bruner said. "It's a casual meet and greet."

Donald Barnett and Robert Wayne Harper are challenging Todd Clary for mayor.

Six residents are seeking two open council seats, including incumbents Jimmy Brown and Bill Erickson and Autumn Massender, Zachary Neu, Joy Porter and Christopher Tucker.
