Golden Corral coming to Cd'A
The on-and-off rumor is finally real. Golden Corral Buffet & Grill Restaurant is coming. The 8,050-square-foot building should be under construction late this month at 3458 N. Fruitland Lane west of Highway 95 and K-Mart. Opening in January, access will be off Neider Avenue behind the Super Supplements mini-mall.
The changing menu offers more than 150 items with the core being a salad bar, soups, cooked-to-order sirloin steaks, many beef, pork, chicken, turkey, fish and shrimp dishes, special periodical offerings of ribs, prime rib and lobster, bakery and dessert items and non-alcohol beverages.
With a casual decor, the place will seat 110 customers and have an area for private gatherings. Parking will have 140 spaces.
Hours will be 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. daily with breakfast possibly added later. It will have 60-70 employees. The local owners are from Bayview.

New owners for Kootenai Coffee
Breakfasts, extended lunches, sweets and, of course, a variety of coffees and teas are offered at Kootenai Coffee at 5417 Government Way with its new owners Rae Smith and her dad, Rick Smith. She has 15 years' barista experience and has been at Kootenai Coffee a year. The manager is Jen Miller.
The menu offers several baked goods and pastries, breakfast burritos and bagels, quiche, sandwiches, paninis,soups, salads, wraps, eight coffees (also house-roasted and sold by the pound) and specialty Warrior Chief Mexican Spice Mocha and pumpkin-spiced chai.
Kootenai Coffee has seating for 88, a new fountain on the patio, a drive-through, catering, free delivery for two miles, specialty trays and free wi-fi. It offers a free breakfast about every eighth Sunday with donations going to charity.
With nine employees, hours are 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. weekdays and 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 765-5158.
North Idaho CASA to 816 Sherman
North Idaho CASA (Court-Appointed Special Advocates for Children) has moved from Fourth Street to 816 E. Sherman Ave. The nonprofit organization recruits and trains volunteers to serve as advocates for abused and neglected children in the five northern counties.
Referred through court orders, about 500 children a year are served by about 100 volunteers and 10 full and part-time staff. Dan English is executive director.
Regular hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Training classes are on-line and evenings. Potential volunteers can contact Nick Arambari at nick.a@northidahocasa.com.

- Aaaarghhh! It happened again - the rumor that Trader Joe's is coming. It ain't. The popular store is being confused with Vitamin Cottage Natural Food Market under construction where the former Elmer's building was torn down at 222 W. Neider Ave. Details later.
