COEUR d'ALENE - On the legs of Tucker and Jerry Louie-McGee, the Lake City Timberwolves appear poised to make a run toward another state playoff berth.

Tucker Louie-McGee ran for 113 yards and threw for 166 - 117 to his younger brother - in the Timberwolves' 40-20 win against the Hillcrest Knights of Idaho Falls on Friday night at Lake City High.

"It's great playing with Jerry," said Tucker Louie-McGee, Lake City's senior quarterback. "It's going to be a fun year, my senior year, with him in the backfield and tonight's game was a lot of fun."

Lake City (2-1) opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 7-yard run by junior tailback Jerry Louie-McGee, who also scored on a 16-yard run in the second quarter and broke the game open on a 74-yard pass from his brother to make it 20-6 before halftime.

"I guess I'm considered a scrambling quarterback, but I'm used to making plays on the run," Tucker Louie-McGee said. "The receivers were just open tonight. Our plan is to score 40 points a game this season. That's our goal and what we want to do. We just need to keep winning and getting better at the little things."

"We're pretty quick offensively," Lake City coach Van Troxel said. "I'd really like to take some of their size and blend it together with our team. Our skill people and return game offensively can really go. Jerry made some big plays catching and returning the ball tonight."

Lake City - which opened the season with a 63-41 loss at Rocky Mountain - hits the road again to face Eastside Catholic of Sammamish, Wash., on Friday, followed by its 5A Inland Empire League opener at Post Falls on Sept. 27.

In the last two games, Lake City has allowed 30 points in wins against Kennewick (42-10) and Hillcrest.

"Our defense is playing a lot better," Troxel said. "In that first game, Rocky is one of the best teams in the state. We're young, but there's still a lot of guys that are getting better each week. We've got a chance to be a lot better, but we've got a big matchup against Eastside Catholic next week. I'm pleased with our teams effort. What we're really stressing is we're going to go back-and-forth until we mature and will do some good things."

Morgan Pyper ran for 72 yards on 14 carries for Hillcrest, which falls to 0-3.
