Timberlake battles, but falls to Bonners Ferry in IML opener

SPIRIT LAKE - Timberlake fought hard most of the way, but came up just short against Bonners Ferry on Thursday, losing 22-25, 25-14, 26-24, 25-21 in the Intermountain League opener for both teams.

"I thought at moments we had a good match," Tigers coach Michelle Garwood said. "We're still getting to the point to where we play to win. We're hesitant, we had moments of brilliance. We're not able to close. We get ourselves down and we fight back. Bonners did a good job."

Timberlake (1-7, 0-1 IML) got four kills from Shea Dretke. Matraca Rocheleau had five assists, while Ayla Jelinek served six aces. Kiara Hauck finished with four digs, while Tayah Holbert and Dretke had three blocks.

For Bonners Ferry (1-0 IML), McKenzi McDonald had 12 kills. Malorie Stippich had 22 digs and three aces. Emma Kelly finished with 10 assists.

Timberlake plays in the Lakeland Invitational at Saturday.

Lakeland

RATHDRUM - Kayla Fahlenkamp had four kills for the Hawks in a 25-6, 25-4, 25-15 loss to the Bulldogs in a 4A Inland Empire League match at Hawk Court.

"Our energy level was a lot better than Tuesday (against Lake City)," Lakeland coach Kylee Garitone said. "We worked better as a team tonight."

Sandpoint is 7-2, 1-0.

Kelly Ramus had three kills and two aces for Lakeland (1-4, 0-2 4A IEL), which hosts the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

St. Maries

KELLOGG - Kelsey Auer had 12 assists and two blocks for the Lumberjacks, who lost a nonleague match 27-25, 25-17, 21-25, 25-12 to the Wildcats at Andrews Gymnasium.

Madi McQueen had 11 digs, Jaycee McQueen 11 assists, Haylee Waddell nine kills and five digs for St. Maries (0-6).

"Overall, I was really happy with how the girls played," St. Maries coach Missy Asbury said. "We've been struggling putting things together, but they played well together. I thought we competed well with them."

Kellogg improves to 3-4.

Both teams compete at the Lakeland Invitational on Saturday.

MULLAN - Sydney Koenig had 12 kills and three blocks for the Tigers in a 25-22, 25-12, 25-18 nonleague win against the Panthers at the Mullan Pavilion.

Taylor Garn had 10 assists, Stephanie Kociela four kills, Anna Verhaeghe four kills and Taylor Petticolas three kills and six digs for Coeur d'Alene Charter (0-5), which travels to Rosalia, Wash., for the Spartan Spikefest on Saturday.

"The girls played hard," Charter assistant coach Tera Armstrong said. "There are a few of them that moved positions. We look forward to having them work it out and playing better in the future."

Charli Sadler had five kills and 12 assists and Bree Ploharz had four aces for Mullan (3-0), which hosts Wallace next Thursday.

Lakeside

WALLACE - Emily Nelson had 15 digs and nine kills to lead the Miners past the Knights 25-21, 27-25, 25-23 in a North Star League match.

Haley Brackebusch had 12 digs, Jordan Browning 10 kills and five blocks and Gretchen Farkas 30 assists for Wallace (2-1, 1-0 NSL), which travels to Kootenai on Tuesday.

Avery Brown-Sonder had 11 kills, five digs, nine assists and two aces for Lakeside (2-1, 1-1). Francine Hendrickx added four aces, five kills, two assists and 18 digs.

"Francine Hendrickx had an exceptional defensive match," Lakeside co-coach Karyn Stockdale said. "We had good net coverage."

Kim Duncan finished with four kills, one ace and two digs. Talia Hendrickx had four aces, three digs, two assists.

Lakeside hosts Liberty on Tuesday.

Kootenai

CLARK FORK - Freshman Allison Warner served 16 aces to lead the host Wampus Cats to a 25-21, 25-18, 25-19 victory over Kootenai in North Star League play.

Clark Fork is 1-2, 1-1 NSL.

Madison Grubham finished with seven assists, Jenna Karpinski had three kills and two aces, Lacy Goodsen three aces and two kills and Austin Andersen two digs for Kootenai (0-3, 0-2), which plays host to Wallace on Tuesday.
