Coeur d'Alene Sting under-11 boys Newcastle: The Sting, coached by Nick Haynes, went 2-2 at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

On Friday, the Sting beat the Sandpoint Strikers 5-1. Braden Bengtson scored two goals and Chris Swider, Auggie Zepeda and Canyon Osborne each scored once. Chris Swider had two assists and Kyler Haynes and Auggie Zepeda each had one.

On Saturday, the Sting beat the Idaho Thunder 7-0, as Kyler Haynes, Cooper Larson, Chris Swider, Braden Dance, Auggie Zepeda, Jaeger Rau and Daniel Rojo each scored once, and Owen Smith and Braden Dance both had assists.

On Sunday, the Sting lost 6-0 to Kootenay of British Columbia, and lost 4-0 in the semifinals to Washington Elite.

Sting U14 boys: The Sting went 1-1-1 last weekend at the 32nd annual Pend Oreille Cup in Sandpoint.

The Sting tied the Sandpoint Strikers 0-0, then lost 4-1 to Washington East with Kieran Graham scoring the lone goal for the Sting. On Sunday the Sting beat FC Spokane 5-1 with Braden Gelnette, Jamie Murdoch, Colvin Dunteman, Isaiah Higbee and Kieran Graham scoring one goal each in the win.

Sting U10 girls Thorn: The Sting went 1-1-1 at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting tied the Flathead Force 1-1, beat the Sandpoint Strikers, then lost to the other Sting U10 girls team 4-2 in a shootout. Molly Foster scored both Thorn goals in regulation play.

Sting boys U10 Barcelona: The Sting went 0-1-2 at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting tied the Keysa Rovers 3-3. Joseph Sarkis, Walker Jump and Colton Stinson each scored once for the Sting.

The Sting tied the Flathead Rapids 4-4. Joseph Sarkis scored two goals, Kohrt Weber and Sean Dreman one each. Walker Jump had two assists.

The Sting lost 1-0 to the Spokane Pumas. Cole Jaworski and Colton Stinson were in the goal for Sting.

Sting U13 girls Galaxy: The Sting won both of its league matches last weekend in Seattle.

The Sting beat the PS Slammer 2-0. Katie Venera scored the first goal with an assist from Sydnee Rud. The second goal was a penalty kick scored by Chloe Teets. Jordan Nowoj posted the shutout in goal.

The Sting beat NORTAC Sparta 2-1. Sarah Swider scored both Sting goals.

Idaho Thunder U12 boys Halseth: The Thunder won their division at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Thunder beat the Sandpoint Strikers 2-1. Cameron Calabretto scored both Thunder goals, with assists from Alex Lycan and Collin Bell. Max Smith had two saves.

Next the Thunder beat the KEYSA Rovers 3-0, with Max Smith posting the shutout in goal. Tristan Delbridge and Alex Lycan each scored one, while Josh Brisendine scored one and had an assist. Other assists came from Jadyn Freeman and Ben Blakely.

In the semifinal the Thunder beat the Nelson (British Columbia) Selects 2-0. Max Smith notched the shutout, and goals were scored by Cameron Calabretto and Ben Blakely.

In the championship game the Thunder beat the Sandpoint Strikers 3-2 in a double penalty kick shootout. Tristan Delbridge scored the first two goals. Carson Jacobsen had one assist. At the end of the double shoot out, Jalen Skalskiy scored the final goal.

Sting U10 boys United: The Sting went 1-1-1 at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting opened with a 10-0 victory over the Sandpoint Strikers Ramsey, then tied the Spokane Shadow 2-2 and lost to the Sandpoint Wolf team 2-1.

Cooper Prohaska scored four goals for the Sting in the tournament, Noah Janzen had four goals and one assist, Bryce Allred had one goal and six assists, Alex Reyes one goal and two assists, Jack Shrontz one goal. Slade Peressini (seven saves), Tyler Allred (seven saves) and Patrick Du all played in goal.

Sting U11 girls Timbers: The Timbers finished second at the Pend Oreille Cup last weekend in Sandpoint.

The Sting won its first game 5-0, as Claire Romero and Chloe Miller each scored two goals, and Darby Lindholt-Anderson had one goal. The Sting then won 4-1, with Claire Romero scoring twice, and Tate Hochberger and Bailey Mongan each scoring once.

The third game ended in a 5-1 victory with goals scored by Claire Romero, Tate Hochberger, Holly Hudson, Chloe Miller and Bailey Mongan. Tate Hochberger and Claire Romero each had assists.

The Sting won the semifinal game in a shootout, following a 2-all tie in regulation. Claire Romero scored both goals in regulation for the Sting. In the shootout, Claire Romero, Chloe Miller and Tate Hochberger scored for the Timbers.

In the championship game, the Timbers lost to their Sting counterparts, the Sounders.

JUNIOR TACKLE

Seventh grade

Coeur d'Alene Packers 43, Coeur d'Alene Chargers 20. Six different Packers scored.

Sixth grade

Coeur d'Alene Bucs 13, Coeur d'Alene Steelers 12: DJ Wattam caught a 12-yard touchdown pass from Derek Pearse midway through the fourth quarter for the game-winning score. Max Peed scored the Bucs' first TD on a 10-yard run in the first quarter, and Logan Jeanselme added the PAT run for the Bucs. Peed was the leading rusher with 42 yards and Pearse added 30 yards. Pearse was 10 of 17 passing for 113 yards, 1 TD and no interceptions. Wattam had 10 receptions for 113 yards. The Bucs' offensive line of Jacob Pratt, Owen Hughes, Dylan Ray, Justin Gies, Ethan Clem and LaSarte also played strong allowing zero quarterback sacks.

The Bucs' defense was led by Connor Dremann's 8 tackles and a fumble recovery, Gies with 8 tackles, Patrick LaSarte with 5 tackles and 2 fumble recoveries and Jeanselme with 5 tackles and an interception.

VOLLEYBALL

Washington State to host four Little Spikers clinics: The Washington State volleyball program will conduct four Little Spikers clinics in Pullman this fall for children ages 6 through 12.

During the one-hour clinics, Little Spikers will be introduced to the basic volleyball fundamentals of passing, setting, hitting, and serving. Instruction is designed for every level of Little Spiker to learn in a fun environment.

The clinics will run from 10 to 11 a.m. in Bohler Gym during the following Saturday mornings: Oct. 12, Oct. 19, Nov. 2, and Nov. 16. The clinic's $25 registration fee pays for all four clinics, a Little Spikers T-shirt, and a Little Spikers membership card which allows participants free admission to all Cougar volleyball home matches.

The Little Spikers will demonstrate their skills at the Washington State versus USC volleyball match Sunday, Nov. 17 at 1 p.m. at Bohler Gym. During the break between the second and third sets, Little Spikers will receive recognition for their hard work and have an opportunity to take home a prize following their skill demonstration.
