Sept. 11 remembrance ceremonies set

A Sept. 11 memorial will be held at the Post Falls City Hall plaza on Wednesday from 8:30-9 a.m.

There will also be a short flag ceremony at the Fallen Heroes Plaza behind the fire station on 15th Street in Coeur d'Alene at 9 a.m.

The public is invited to the ceremonies.

Wednesday marks the 12th anniversary of the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in New York City and Washington, D.C.

The Post Falls program includes a proclamation by Mayor Clay Larkin.

Police Capt. Pat Knight and Kootenai County Fire and Rescue Capt. Dan Ryan will offer remembrances for police, fire and all first responders who died on Sept. 11.

American Legion Post 143 representative Len Crosby will pay respects to the men and women of the military.

Ceremonies include the lowering of the U.S. flag to half staff, a traditional bell ringing for fallen firefighters and the laying of a wreath and taps for all victims of Sept. 11.

Honor Guard units from Post Falls Police, KCFR, American Legion Post 143 and the Patriot Guard Riders will participate.

Coffee wagon to help Marine Corps League

Travelers heading eastbound into Montana will have one last chance for some Coeur d'Alene hospitality from local Marines.

The Marine Corps League Pappy Boyington Detachment has begun its two-week deployment for coffee wagon duty at the Montana Lookout Pass rest stop.

The wagon will be open daily from 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. through Thursday, Sept. 19.

Those who visit the rest stop can enjoy free refreshments of coffee, tea or lemonade and cookies.

Donations received will benefit the detachment's annual Toys for Tots campaign in Coeur d'Alene.
