Wilma Lee Scammel, 74

Wilma Lee Scammel, born March 18, 1939, in Kellogg, passed away on Sept. 6, 2013, at Kootenai Health Center of natural causes.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William (Bill) Oliver Scammel, in 2008 and is survived by her four children Gayle Dudley of Rathdrum, Beth Scammel of Seaside, Ore., Verdonna Keefer of Crawfordsville, Ind., and Danny Scammel of Post Falls, as well as six grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. Wilma is also survived by siblings Marsha Ward and Dennis Avery, whose spouse is Kathy, and her beloved dog Tia.

Wilma and Bill greatly enjoyed the outdoors and spent many of their retirement years campground hosting at various places around the Northwest including a campground in Randle near Mt. St. Helens in Washington and Red Ives on the St. Joe River near Avery.

Wilma and her siblings grew up in the Kingston and Pinehurst, Idaho, area where their father made his career as a miner and their mother worked at the Broken Wheel Café for many years.

In her spare time, Wilma enjoyed crafts including knitting, sewing, painting, and crocheting. She also enjoyed cooking, baking, and gardening. Wilma was a past member of the O.D.O. club in Kingston.

Services will be held at Community United Methodist Church, 1470 West Hanley Avenue, Coeur d’Alene, on Sept. 10, 2013, at 1 p.m. A reception to celebrate Wilma’s life will follow at the same location.
