COLUMN: Off the cliff again

| September 1, 2013 9:00 PM

Like weeds in my yard, Cliff Harris, our local weather clown, is back! And he has another new friend. This time it’s Anthony Watts. Mr. Watts is a former local weatherman turned wild-eyed blogger whose main claim to fame is to discredit global climate change by posting photos of poorly sited weather stations.

However, the problem with Cliff and Anthony’s theory is that temperature records are but one part of the evidence of global climate change.

Sea levels are rising, and yes Cliff, ice sheets are melting, glaciers are retreating. As for the temperature readings, ocean readings, far from the “heat islands” also show overall warming. They are also confirmed by satellite readings. If we can read the temperature of the sun, moon, and other planets by satellite I don’t think we need a weather station on the top of the local bank.

Again, Cliff Harris uses his “Weather Gems” as a pulpit to spew his junk science. Weather Gems is not a weather column, it is a way for him to babble about totally dis-proven political ideologue, and enlist his many quack “friends.” It’s like watching an old man with a tin foil hat ramble on about things that make no sense.

The problem is that THE PRESS gives him a platform for aluminum strips and CO2 ravings among other things, and now heat islands.

Cliff needs to seek some help for his ravings. Maybe they have a “sick bay” aboard the space ship he is riding on.
