Artworks expands to Coeur d'Alene
Decorative painting is the specialty of Artworks Coeur d'Alene. The new business opened this weekend at 2049 Main St. in Riverstone.
The work includes custom surface design on walls, ceilings, cabinets, furniture, fireplaces, showers, columns and floors. Examples, furniture, gifts and the Annie Sloan Chalk Paint line are in the store.
Owner and creative director Nancy Jones has been a decorative artist since 1974 and a decorative painting instructor since 1985. She employs 11 people, including in her Artworks Spokane store, and Gail Lauria as manager in Coeur d'Alene.

Hand-painted items at Fielder Keepsakes
Hand-decorated china, furniture, collectibles, glass and figurines are featured at Fielder Keepsakes. The store opens Tuesday at 3909 Schreiber Way next to Lincare in Commercial Park south of Kathleen Avenue and west of Highway 95.
The decorated and kiln-fired-on-site china items include teapots, cups, saucers, salt and pepper shakers and special requests and wholesale sales. Owner-operators are Fred and Deana Fielder with employee Nikki Betts.

Postal Annex moves in Hayden
With its theme as "Your Home Office," Postal Annex is moving its Hayden store starting Tuesday. Transferring from Prairie Shopping Center, the new place is at 9030 N. Hess St. (west of Highway 95 and north of Walmart).
The 15-year-old store's long list of services includes shipping and its supplies, copy, fax, shredding, notary and scanning services, laminating, binding and greeting cards.
Local owner is Ken Kile. With about 250 outlets, the company started in 1985, and its headquarters is in San Diego. Local hours are 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 762-0770. Check www.postalannex.com/285. Another outlet is in Ironwood Shopping Center, Cd'A.
AAA moves in Sunset Mall
More space and better visibility are amenities for the move of AAA to the former Coinuts location in Sunset Mall (296 W. Sunset, east of Highway 95).
The store offers travel, automotive, insurance and financial services as well as many travel items. These include maps, guidebooks, reservations, road services and a Visa card. The store also will have travel events.
AAA Washington has 25 offices in Washington and Cd'A. Hours here are 8:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays. Local manager Gloria Neuharth has six employees. Phone 664-5868. Check www.aaa.com.

- An interesting side trip is to the Schreiber Way circuit down (and turn south off) the Kathleen Avenue hill west of Highway 95. It's surprising what's all there.
- In Seattle people are fussing over the "unsightliness" of underwear on outdoor clotheslines. Geez.
- Vertical Earth plans a move from Riverstone to East Sherman Avenue.
- The rumor of a Cracker Barrel restaurant coming here is only that.
- A misconception is that "golf" stands for "gentlemen only ladies forbidden."
- "Gibe" means to taunt. "Jibe" means either to shift direction or agree.
