TRUTH: PAC ploy 'disgusting'

The deception and deceit by the Truth North Idaho PAC is disgusting. If a person has the guts to take a political stand, then he puts his name on it, right there for everyone to see — just like the signers of the Declaration of Independence. These cheap tactics tarnish what those great men stood for, what they sacrificed.

As a City Councilman, I have asked the mayor about the invocation. I would prefer that there were none because it’s unsettling to those who do not believe yet who are compelled to attend. Even a generic prayer to God — who is worshiped by Hindus, Muslims, Jews and Christians — would be preferable. My concern was heard, but the practice continues.

The First Amendment prevents us from using any religion as a basis of governance. While I admire religious passion and political activism, I would hope that citizens embrace American virtue and not the intolerance of the Taliban.
