Mayoral hopefuls bringing in big bucks

COEUR d'ALENE - Mary Souza remains the frontrunner in campaign fundraising, pulling in $37,260 so far, but Steve Widmyer is closing the gap, reporting a total of $29,914 in the three-way race for Coeur d'Alene mayor.

Their challenger, Joe Kunka, is reporting a total of $2,500. Kunka spent $2,328 so far, and most of that expenditure is for a billboard through Lamar Sign Company.

He raised $70 from one unitemized donation of $20, and a $50 in-kind donation in the form of campaign buttons. Kunka also donated $500 to his own campaign and still has $171 on hand.

During the reporting period from Oct. 1 through Oct. 20, Souza raised an additional $8,037, and spent $5,255. She still has $14,990 in cash, with zero debts owing.

Most of Souza's spending during this period was with Mallourcott Design of Post Falls, where she spent $1,724. She also returned a $1,000 donation from Ocean of Life Foundation, which was replaced by Foundation Director Tom Wold with another $1,000 donation during this period.

Other major donors to the Souza campaign include Nancy Doty, who gave $999, and Patrick Weller who donated $900.

Widmyer raised $11,091 during the same filing period and he spent $11,354, most of which went to Range NW. He had $4,254 on hand at the close of the filing period, and $1,888 in debt.

He has raised an additional $4,000 after the Oct. 20 filing period, and disclosed those donors as Bill Reagan, Danelle Reagan, Professional Fire Fighters of Idaho and Idaho Association of Realtors, each of which donated $1,000.

The Coeur d'Alene Police Officers Association, the Coeur d'Alene Tribe, the Coeur d'Alene Fire Fighters Association and the Boise Fire Fighters Association donated $1,000 each as well.

Widmyer also received a $500 in-kind donation from Riverstone Development for advertising, and another $1,000 in-kind support for Jacklin Land Company, which was also for advertising.

Council Seat 2

The race between Chris Fillios and Amy Evans remains the top fundraiser among council positions, with Evans raising a total of $13,027 so far this year, and Fillios reporting $8,191.

For the reporting period between Oct. 1 and Oct. 20, Fillios raised $5,288 and spent $3,626. He has $1,986 on hand and debts of $3,345.

Fillios reported three top donors with Phil Damiano donating $1,000. Jim and Nancy Doty gave him $500, and Regan Properties donated $500.

He also had a $748 in-kind donation from Reclaim North Idaho PAC.

His major expenditure was with the Strategery Group for $2,178.

Evans raised $3,275 during the same 20-day filing period, and spent $3,021. She still has $8,950 on hand with no debts to report.

Evans received 21 unitemized contributions for a total of $850, and her major donors were the Coeur d'Alene Tribe and Coeur d'Alene Police Officers Association which both gave her $500.

Her major expenditures were with Range NW for $3,004.

Council seat 6

Gary Herfurth reported that he has not raised any money or spent any money on his campaign to date, while Kiki Miller has raised a total of $9,407 this year, and Noel Adam has raised $4,067.

During the 20-day filing period Adam reported $1,433 in contributions and spent $1,930 with $1,216 of that going to the Strategery Group. He has $1,403 on hand and debts totaling $2,000.

Phil Damiano donated $1,000 to his campaign, and Adam owes himself $1,000 and the Strategery Group $1,000.

Miller raised $4,589 and spent $1,431 during the reporting period. She has $4,974 on hand and $856 in debts.

Her major donors included Coeur d'Alene Fire Fighters Association and Kootenai Fire and Rescue Local 2856, with each donating $1,000. Miller's major expenditure was with Range NW for $1,127.

Council Seat 4

Woody McEvers has raised the most money in this race so far with a total of $6,843. He is followed by Sharon Hebert who raised $4,339 and Amber Copeland who reported a total of $280.

Copeland did not spend any money during the 20-day filing period, but raised an additional $100 from donor Dave Chamberlain. She has a total of $395 on hand.

McEvers has raised the majority of his campaign money during the 20-day period, which totaled $5,099, and has spent $3,509 of that. He has $2,509 on hand.

His major donors include Coeur d'Alene Fire Fighters Association, Kootenai Fire and Rescue Local 2856, Boise Fire Fighters Association and the Professional Fire Fighters of Idaho, which each gave $1,000.

His major expenditures include $1,742 to Minute Press, and $1,444 with The Coeur d'Alene Press.
