Firebugs target portable toilets
COEUR d’ALENE — Authorities are questioning a juvenile suspect who fire investigators say admitted to starting a fire Tuesday evening in a portable toilet placed near construction areas in Coeur d'Alene's Fort Grounds neighborhood.
Coeur d’Alene Fire responded to a report that a Porta Potty was on fire, and upon arrival, found the portable toilet was fully engulfed. The fire had also spread to a building next to the Porta Potty.
The fire was put out and when investigators returned this morning they discovered the remains of small fires inside two other Porta Pottys, and at a home under construction in the neighborhood.
According to Dept. Fire Chief Glenn Lauper, residents of the neighborhood were instrumental in the suspect's apprehension.
“The neighborhood was very, very helpful in providing information on the suspects,” Lauper said. “We appreciate it.”
Coeur d’Alene Police Sgt. Christie Wood said officers are talking to two 12-year-old boys who are suspects.
