VETERANS: Luncheon sponsors praised

On behalf of our Student Board and faculty we would like to thank the following businesses for donating food for our Veteran's luncheon held on Nov. 15. Many thanks to: Super 1 Foods, Texas Road House, and Walmart-Westpoint.

This luncheon and the following assembly were just one small way that we could show our appreciation to area veterans who did so much for us. Your kindness helped make it a special day for many people. We couldn't have done it without your help.

Sincerely,

ISAAC ROBBINS, SHERRY MAYO and KATHY WEBSTER

PARADE: Patriotism was shown

My husband and I want to extend our thanks to those who made our Veterans Day extra special this year. We want to begin by thanking all of those who organized and participated in the Veterans Day parade and ceremony in Hayden. Too many people take their freedoms for granted, but it is events like this that help provide an opportunity to show our patriotism and remember all those who have served our country, especially those who sacrificed their lives to protect us.

We also want to extend our thanks to all the restaurants and businesses in our community that provide free meals for active duty and veterans on Veterans Day and those that offer discounts throughout the year. By doing this, you truly demonstrate your support of our troops and veterans in a tangible way. We are especially grateful to RDI Heating and Cooling, not only for installing our new furnace today, but for thanking my husband for his 24 years of military service and providing a veteran's discount on such a large expense.

Our Veterans Day celebration ended with a delicious dinner at Olive Garden that included a complimentary dinner for my husband. All of the staff, from the hostess to our server, as well as many customers, thanked my husband for his service. Since we both remember a time in our history when thanking military personnel for their service was not routinely done, the expressions of gratitude mean a lot to both of us.

We would also like to extend a very heartfelt thank you to the anonymous customer at Olive Garden who paid $15 towards our bill. What a thoughtful and kind thing to do for total strangers! It is people like you that make our country better, and one of the many reasons we feel so blessed to live here in Idaho. As our 2013 Veteran's Day comes to an end, we will keep you (the anonymous customer), our active duty military and their families, our veterans, and the families of those who made the ultimate sacrifice, in our prayers.
