Carl Zehner, 89

Carl A. Zehner, resident of Coeur d’Alene, joined our heavenly Father, Nov. 9, 2013, at his home, Ivy Court, surrounded by his family. Carl was born Jan. 27, 1924, in Bruce, Wis., to Fred and Euphemia Zehner, who preceded him in death. He was the fourth of five children (two sisters and two brothers).

Carl was a World War II Combat Vet, serving in the Navy from 1942-1947. Next to his family this was his greatest accomplishments and proudest moments. He was a very patriotic man, devoted husband, and loving father to his three children. His family always came first and he will be greatly missed.

Carl retired from Western Electric (Bell System) after 35 years of service. He was an installer, eventually working his way into an Engineering position.

Carl and his late wife, Virginia were married Sept. 20, 1947, in Bend, Ore. They moved to Spokane and several other states over the course of 15 years. In 1963, they were transferred to California and lived there for the next 35 years. In 1999, they returned to the Pacific Northwest, and continued to reside in the beautiful Lake City of Coeur d’Alene. Carl and Virginia celebrated 61 years of marriage in September 2008.

Carl is survived by one son and daughter-in-law, Mike and Donna Zehner of San Jose, Calif.; two daughters and sons-in-law, Becky and Gary Kennedy of Los Lunas, N.M., and Bonnie and Duane Pratt of Coeur d’Alene; one sister, Kay Schnaar of Gilroy, Calif. Other survivors are 10 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

A memorial Mass will be held at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 14, 2013, at St. Pius X ,625 E. Haycraft Ave., Coeur d’Alene. Burial with Military Honors will be immediately following the service, at St. Thomas Cemetery, also in Coeur d’Alene. A reception will be held at the family’s home in Coeur d’Alene.
