RESORT: Crossed line for election

| November 6, 2013 8:00 PM

It is one thing to encourage colleagues to exercise their right to vote. The Resort G.M. has a full court press on employees, disguised as a “get out the vote.” It started with a simple memo, then two letters to their homes. Offering advice on candidates who “understand our business,” “very important, particularly to our tourism industry;” “these four are the best most qualified candidates to lead our city and support the continued growth of our industry.” Offers were made as well, to locate and transport employees to polling places!

Increased tourism is presented as the encouragement for employees to vote, what is the inference? Tourism profits will NOT likely benefit the employees: Additional training, professional development and advancement opportunities. If his recommended candidate, business partner and friend is not elected, is another 5 percent pay cut and the removal of more perks the consequence for employees? Is this voter intimidation? Has the Resort crossed the line?

What an insult to his employees, suggesting they are incapable of making their own informed vote. He’s not fooling anyone with this push to “get out the vote.” They know who the real winners AND losers will be in this.
