CST offers sign language performances of 'Big River'

| May 31, 2013 9:00 PM

Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre is offering two performances of "Big River" with American Sign Language Interpreters for the hearing impaired on Thursday, June 20 and Saturday, June 22 at 7:30.

"Big River: The Adventures of Huckleberry Finn," was the first Broadway musical that featured both deaf and hearing actors performing together, when it was staged by the Roundabout Theatre Company and Deaf West Theatre.

"We are excited to be able to offer theater to people who may not always have the opportunity to enjoy it," said Roger Welch, Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre Artistic Director. "Being able to offer theater to everyone is part of our mission. And with the history of Big River being performed by both deaf and hearing people, it seemed appropriate to make that available for this show."

Seating nearest the ASL Interpreters can be reserved by calling the box office at (208) 769-7780.

Big River runs June 13, 14, 15 7:30 p.m.; June 16 2 p.m.; June 20-22 7:30 p.m. and June 22 2 p.m. at the Schuler Performing Arts Center on the campus of North Idaho College. Tickets run $25 to $40 and can be purchased at the Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre box office (1000 Garden Ave., Coeur d'Alene), by phone (208) 769-7780 or online at www.cdasummertheatre.com.

Established in 1967, Coeur d'Alene Summer Theatre is the Inland Northwest's only professional musical theater, and one of the premier arts entertainment attractions in the region.
