Timberlake, St. Maries advance to district title games

SPIRIT LAKE - Mason Cramer went 2 for 2 and scored three runs as the top-seeded Timberlake Tigers beat the fourth-seeded Kellogg Wildcats 12-2 in a 3A District 1 baseball tournament semifinal game on Friday at Timberlake High.

Trevor Masterson had four RBIs and Hunter Tonkin three RBIs for Timberlake (13-7), which faces Priest River (14-5) in the championship game today at 11 a.m. Priest River defeated Bonners Ferry (10-11) in the other semifinal 5-0.

"It gets us one step closer to a state berth," Timberlake coach Bill Rider said.

Kellogg and Bonners Ferry will play a loser-out game today at 1:30 p.m., followed by the second-place game at 5 p.m.

Jack Long had a two-run single in the third inning for Kellogg (0-18).

OROFINO - Dillon Michael went 2 for 3 with two runs scored to lead the top-seeded Lumberjacks past the Tigers in a semifinal game in the 2A District 1-2 tournament at Orofino High.

St. Maries (15-2) will play Grangeville (16-5) today in the championship game at 11 a.m., with the winner advancing to the state 2A tournament starting Thursday at Wolff Field in Caldwell. The loser will play in the second-place game at 4 p.m. to for the district's second berth to state.

Grangeville beat Orofino 6-5 in the other semifinal on Friday.

Matt Smith went 2 for 4 with a run scored for St. Maries.

"Dillon only struck out three, but we played good defense behind him," St. Maries coach Craig Tefft said. "He had good control and good command."

OROFINO - Chelsea Grosvenor finished 3 for 4 with three RBIs as the Lumberjacks defeated the Wildcats in the second-place game of the 2A District 1-2 tournament late Thursday at Orofino High.

Kari Ghramm hit a two-run single in a four-run fourth inning for St. Maries (7-15), which faces Declo today at noon PDT in a state 2A tournament play-in game in Payette.

COEUR d'ALENE - Sonja Jacobson and Lexi Carlsen of Coeur d'Alnee will play Kingsbury and Mayton of Lewiston in the girls doubles finals today following Friday's play at Lake City and Coeur d'Alene high schools.

Megan Dibble and Hannah Olvera of Lake City face Leah Langdon and Courtney Gunnerson of Coeur d'Alene for the consolation title.

In mixed doubles, Brittany Engle and Kyle Newton of Post Falls will face Sloane Booterbaugh and John Campbell of Coeur d'Alene in the championship match.

In the consolation semifinals, it's Freeman and Cameron Cates of Lake City vs. Lexi Niles and Megan Saucer of Post Falls, and Danyelle Keese and Johnny Dance of Coeur d'Alene vs. Kirk and Ozeran of Lewiston.

In boys singles, Rafa Hewitt-Steiger of Lewiston faces Cesar Garcia of Lewiston in the championship match. In the consolation semis, it's Nick Collie of Post Falls vs. Lincoln Hill of Post Falls, and Michael Hardy of Post Falls vs. Jordan Cates of Lake City.

In boys doubles, Jacob Dahl and Nick Jordan of Lake City will face Kucera and Roberts of Lewiston. In the consolation final, Dakota Buroker and Ian Lynch of Coeur d'Alene will play the winner of a late Friday match between Owen Wenker and Zack Stoeckert of Coeur d'Alene and Seth McLeod and Casey Benton of Post Falls.

In girls singles, Caitlin McHugh and Abby Steed of Coeur d'Alene, and Josie Jagelsky and Christine Sayler of Lewiston advanced in the championship round. Megan Mitchell of Coeur d'Alene, Hailey Little of Lake City, Mireya Hernandez of Post Falls and Melissa Thomson of Lewiston have advanced in the consolation round.

The tourney concludes today, with all matches at Lake City. The championship finalists and the consolation champion advance to state next Friday and Saturday at Timberline High in Boise.

Today's action starts at 9 a.m., with finals around 10:30.
