STUDENT: She's a teacher, too

| May 10, 2013 9:00 PM

A young lady, Danielle Curson of Dalton Gardens, authored a Letter to the Editor published in the Coeur d’Alene Press on Friday, May 3. I have never met Miss Curson, but I immediately found kinship with her in reading her letter. I wish to compliment her, thank her and put forth a few thoughts of my own.

Danielle, currently a student at a secular university, states that she cannot be ideologically tolerant and be an ideological individual. It is clear to me that those who support all kinds of social and cultural ideas, stand for nothing.

The basic problem is the current socialist, liberal culture that has infected our education system is not interested in producing mature citizens who stand for the values that built our American culture. The first sentence of the Declaration of Independence includes the concept of natural law. The probably source of this concept is Romans 2: 14,15. All of us find right and wrong in our hearts. The end of education is to teach people to think. Thinking for yourself is a mark of maturity.

Back to our current socialist, liberal culture. Those who profess it have been intent on destroying our “educational” system for close to a century. Their objective is to create a nation of drones, easy to be controlled. Hence, only the elite need to think for themselves.

In our society, we have many men and women who consider themselves to be highly educated and have the credentials to prove it, who stand for absolutely nothing. Unfortunately, many of them find homes in our universities.

Our society needs more citizens who know who and what they are, take pride in what they believe in, and can and do articulate what they stand for.

Stand tall Danielle Curson!
