EVENTS: Complex good for community

| May 10, 2013 9:00 PM

As a senior from Lake City High School, I am very aware of the influence sports have on our community. In my entire four years of high school there have been countless games, both home and away, that take place in our growing town. The idea of a sports complex at our college would be a wonderful addition and would open up plenty of opportunities to host larger events, attract more people for the summer and winter months, create jobs, and over-all boost the livelihood of Coeur d’Alene. The building will be multi-functional and will draw in plenty of people to spur popularity while also being available at the community’s disposal.

Our high schools sport teams are subject to a lot of traveling due to the lack of a facility large enough to support the number of fans and teams in our district. Coeur d’Alene High along with Lake City are both subjected to more away games rather than home games and because of this, we lose support from our fellow citizens who don’t or can’t make the trip to support their team. Having a sports complex at our college will help our town pride flourish and enable more community involvement.

All in all it would be a wonderful opportunity for our town and I know the high schools would love an alternative facility to host athletic events. Physical Education is a corner stone in any community to help its youth and citizens thrive.
