USDA - Forest Service Idaho Panhandle National Forests Bonners Ferry Ranger District Boundary County, Idaho The Bonners Ferry Ranger District of the Idaho Panhandle National Forests is seeking comments on the Hall Mission to Drill Project. The project would include 8 drill holes that would utilize a diamond drill. "The purpose of the exploration plan is to quantify the extent, volume, grade, and type of mineralization in the Claim block in order to determine if further exploration and/or mining activities are warranted." The drill sites are all located on the existing road prism and would not require any length of roads to be built. The project area is located within Sections 9, 11, 14, and 18-21 of T65N, R1E, B.M. and of the Hall Mountain and Copeland 7.5' topographic quadrangle in the Mission Creek and Kootenai River Drainages. Drilling would take approximately 6 weeks with 2 shifts a day working 24/7. The District Ranger has made a preliminary assessment that this proposal falls within the scope of actions listed in the Forest Service Handbook (FSH) that are categorically excluded from documentation in an Environmental Assessment (EA) or Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) and that no extraordinary circumstances exist that would preclude use of the category 36 CFR220.6 (e)(8) - "Short term mineral, energy, or geophysical investigations and their incidental support activities that may require cross-country travel by vehicles and equipment, construction of less than one mile of low standard road, or use and minor repair of existing roads.
