MERIDIAN - Lindsie Scholwinski struck out eight as the Coeur d'Alene Vikings beat the Meridian Warriors 9-1 in the Idaho Sporting Goods tournament on Friday at Meridian High.

"We just did a good job of hitting with runners in scoring position," Coeur d'Alene coach Larry Bieber said. "We're hitting all the way up and down the lineup. They had good pitching, so I'm excited with how we're hitting the ball right now as a team."

Jadyn Behm had two RBIs and Mariah Montee had three hits for Coeur d'Alene (4-0), which faces Rigby and Mountain View today to conclude the tournament.

Timberlake splits

in nonleague games

SPIRIT LAKE - The Tigers split a pair of nonleague games on Friday, beating the Bonners Ferry Badgers 18-8 in five innings before losing to the Kellogg Wildcats 6-2.

Lexi Posch, Ashley Carhart, Olivia Owen and Alicia Rutigliano had three hits each and Sydnie Malloy hit a two-run homer for Timberlake against Bonners Ferry.

Against Kellogg, Rutigliano hit a solo home run for Timberlake (2-2), which is scheduled to host Lakeland next Friday.

Arica Specht had a two-run double in the first inning for Kellogg (2-3), which lost to Priest River later in Spirit Lake.

"We just need to compete two games in a row," Timberlake coach Mike Menti said. "(Raine) Yergler did a good job of keeping us off balance and we just didn't get on track today."

COEUR d'ALENE - Nick Nyquist hit his second grand slam of the season, highlighting a 21-run second inning in the opener, and the Vikings went on to sweep the Bulldogs at Ted Page Field.

Nyquist finished with five RBIs in the opener, and drove in three more in the second game for Coeur d'Alene (8-1). Kolby DeHaas drove in four runs in the first game, Devin Kluss three.

In the second game, Braeden Jacobson went 3 for 3 with six RBIs and four runs scored for Coeur d'Alene. Brett Robbins drove in three runs and scored three.

Brent Wingham struck out six in two innings of relief for the Vikings in the second game.

Sandpoint (0-6) was held to one hit in each game.

Coeur d'Alene returns to action April 9 at Post Falls to open 5A Inland Empire League play.
