Police have released the name of a 20-year-old Kellogg resident who died in a fiery car accident early Sunday.

Peter Thrasher was driving his 2002 Honda Civic east on Bumble Bee Road in Kingston when he failed to navigate a curve around 1 a.m., said Idaho State Police officer Allen Ashby.

Thrasher's vehicle went over the embankment, hit a large boulder and tree, and caught fire.

The fire from the vehicle caught the eyes of residents in the area. Several people called 911 because they thought it was a forest fire, while another caller reported that a vehicle was on fire but no one was inside.

Emergency responders found Thrasher had died in the vehicle.

Ashby said the vehicle was completely charred when they arrived on the scene.

ISP officers and firefighters remained at the scene for several hours after the accident to fully extinguish and remove the vehicle.

An investigation continues.
