LEVY: A burden worth bearing

| March 10, 2013 9:00 PM

I’m writing to encourage you to vote YES for our Coeur d’Alene School District Maintenance and Operations Levy on Tuesday. Our future generations’ education is vitally important to the success of our kids, our community and our country. What better reasons are there?

Unfortunately, our state has greatly decreased their funding to our local school districts, which in turn requires individual property owners to bear the burden through property taxes. Not only that, our state code also requires that the school district request maintenance and operations money every two years, which is exhausting for us taxpayers.

It can begin to seem like this is all the school district does — ask for money. But besides having to ask us for money every other year, they are educating 10,000 kids a day.

While we definitely need to fix some things at the state level, let’s not take any of this out on our kids or our community. Our kids deserve the best education possible. And please consider that these kids may likely end up being our doctors, dentists, police officers, firefighters, etc. some day.

Please, vote YES for the Coeur d’Alene School District kids and our community on March 12th.
