Robert Lee Potter, 83

| June 20, 2013 9:00 PM

Robert Lee Potter went home to be with the Lord Jesus Christ on June 13, 2013, at the young age of 83 in Coeur d’Alene. Robert was born Oct. 25, 1929, in Stockton, Calif., to George LeRoy Potter and Violet Yvonne Rushing.

Robert served as a Staff Sargent in the United State Army from 1947-1967. During Robert’s 20 years in the Army he served in Japan, Germany, Korea and Great Britain. While stationed in Great Britain, Robert met his beautiful bride Barbara Dunford, she was serving with the Women’s Royal Air Force. Eighteen months later they married. Robert and Barbara celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary on April 6, 2013.

Robert Lee Potter was a hard working and caring husband and father. After serving 20 years in the Army, Robert went on to work another 20 years for Smith Tool International in California. Robert stood firm in his belief that a husband and father worked hard to provide for his family and he did just that. Upon retirement from Smith Tool it was noted that Robert had only missed two unscheduled days of work.

Robert loved to spend time with his friends and family deep sea fishing off the coast of California. He loved to read and watch sports. Robert also loved to pass on his wisdom and knowledge to his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He was always there to lend a hand or an ear to anyone in need.

Robert Lee Potter is survived by his beautiful bride of 60 years, Barbara Potter; his only sister, Susan Jayaram (California); his children, Dean Potter (California) Regina Alderman (Idaho), Cheryl Schoener (Idaho), Tracy Herrera (California), and Steven Potter (Missouri). He is also a proud grandfather to 11 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.

Robert’s family takes comfort in knowing that he is now always watching over us. Robert will always be loved and he will be missed dearly.

Private family services will be held at a later date. Yates Funeral Home, Coeur d’Alene Chapel, has been entrusted with the care of final arrangements. Please visit Robert’s online memorial and sign his guest book at www.yatesfuneralhomes.com.
