Outotec expanding Coeur d'Alene operations

| June 15, 2013 9:00 PM

Outotec, a globally operating technology company, is building a new manufacturing facility at its Outotec Energy Products unit in Coeur d'Alene.

"Highly skilled and committed employees were a decisive factor in making this investment decision in favor of Coeur d'Alene," said Jukka Tuominen, the general manager of Outotec Energy Products. "The technology and proprietary equipment for the energy systems have been developed here by the local team and having the strong link between engineering and manufacturing is a competitive advantage that Outotec definitely wants to retain."

Outotec acquired the Coeur d'Alene-based EPI (Energy Products of Idaho) at the end of 2011 to strengthen Outotec's portfolio of energy and environmental technologies. EPI had been developing and delivering energy systems for converting waste materials into energy since 1973 and was a pioneer in this industry.

The former EPI, now called Outotec Energy Products is planning to take the North Idaho technology global. The demand for renewable energy is growing all over the world and Outotec sees vast opportunities in selling energy technology from Coeur d'Alene to Europe, South America, Southeast Asia and Australia. In order to meet the expected global demand, Outotec decided to invest in the manufacturing facilities in the Coeur d'Alene industrial park.

"The new manufacturing facility will support us in delivering renewable energy systems worldwide," Tuominen said.

The new facility will mainly focus on manufacturing proprietary equipment for energy systems to be delivered around the world but it is also equipped to support the Outotec Group's minerals processing technology sales with quality manufacturing. Outotec Energy Products currently employs 70 people in Coeur d'Alene and expects to grow the operation considerably as the international expansion starts picking up.
