WHACK: Beware babble in the tent
Jeff Langford’s guest opinion, on May 30th, was a common arrogant rant heard from a small wing of the Christian community. A community that is actually a big tent. Mr. Langford represents, what I call, the “Kentucky Fried Christians.” They think they own the “Franchise,” and, anyone who does not believe in their latest “Charismatic Leader’s” interpretation of scripture is a heretic.
I would guess that Jimmy Pappas is a great Christian, believing in the goodness of Christian teachings. As a Democrat, he probably doesn’t believe that cutting food stamps, and healthcare, for the poor, so that you can give tax cuts to the rich, is one of God’s edicts. Chances are that he doesn’t believe his God is against raising the minimum wage. And, as a true Christian, Jimmy Pappas probably thinks that when Obamacare offers healthcare to forty million uninsured Americans, that is something Jesus would support. His Jesus would have noticed that Mr. Langford’s Republicans have voted 38 times to repeal healthcare for 40 million uninsured Americans.
Again, the Christian community is a big tent. Mr. Langford and his fellow “Kentucky Fried Christians” are like the camel that has his nose under the edge of the tent. Every once in a while, we have to whack them, so they don’t bring about another “Inquisition.”
