POST FALLS FESTIVAL: A great success

We'd like to thank everyone who made the Post Falls Festival Parade a great success in its first July presentation on Saturday, especially our sponsors: Community 1st Bank and Ground Force Manufacturing, and our partners, the Post Falls Chamber of Commerce, Post Falls Police and Street Departments, Prairie Falls Golf Course and 3Acorn Insurance.

It was a picture-perfect weekend for a celebration and on behalf of the Post Falls Festival Parade Committee; Steve Bruno, Sam Clevenger, Jim and Cyndie Hammond, Pam Houser, Dave Holinka, Chris Pappas, Willi Buerge, Linda Wilhelm, Clay Ownbey and James Ownbey we say thank you to all on the parade participants and enthusiastic spectators. See you next year!

SUMMER ARTS: Support isĀ appreciated

Summer Arts for Youth and their sponsor, the Coeur d'Alene Arts Commission would like to give a huge thank you to The Coeur d'Alene Rotary Club, Kiwanis Club of Coeur d'Alene and the Coeur d'Alene Art Association for their generous grants for our 2013 program.

Through their financial support we are able to offer scholarships for many children who would not have been able to participate in Summer Arts. It also allows us to continue to offer our quality arts classes at low cost to families in our community. Our class registration fee has not been raised in six years.

Now in its 15th year, Summer Arts for Youth offers numerous fun and exciting Arts classes for kids, ages 5-15, at Harding Family Center during June and July. In these classes local artists and instructors encourage students in the creative process, developing multiple skills as they make their own art.

Thank you Rotary, Kiwanis and CAA. Our staff and all the kids really appreciate your help!

CAPONE'S: Donating to and feeding vets

I would just like the extend a personal note of gratitude to Tom and Teresa Capone and the entire staffs of all three Capone's locations. These generous members of our community not only fed 85 active and prior service military members for free during our 5th Annual Vernon Baker Memorial Day Free Lunch for Veterans this year, but they have also agreed to donate their portion of the collected donations to the Kootenai County Veteran's stand down.

Tom and Teresa are both from military families, so they said the decision was easy. With this donation, they have provided $297.50 to the Veteran's Stand down, which provides Military Surplus items, VA medical services, outreach and counseling, lunches and many more services to our local veterans in need. For these actions, I salute the Capones, as well as all of the other restaurants and donors who have made this a successful event the last five years.
