Crush '98 a winner to open state 14U tourney

COEUR d'ALENE - The Coeur d'Alene Crush '98 is the lone local team in the winners bracket after Friday's first day of play at the Idaho ASA 14-and-under softball tournament at Ramsey Park.

The Crush blanked the Idaho Crossfire of Idaho Falls 12-0 in four innings in its opener. Hailey Tefft went 3 for 3 and drove in two runs for the Crush, Missy Huddleston was 2 for 3 with two doubles and an RBI, and Kayla Patton struck out four.

The Crush '99 beat the Boise Blast 5-3, then lost to the Southern Idaho Ice of Twin Falls 8-0.

Bailey Gleaves pitched a four-hitter for the Crush against the Blast, and Brooke Bowers delivered a three-run double in the first inning.

Rosie Canty of the Ice pitched a two-hit shutout against the Crush, with three strikeouts. She also went 2 for 2 with a triple and double.

The Northwest Wildfire (Guindon) dropped its opener 8-4 to the Idon Ricochet of Meridian. Jillian Long went 2 for 3 with two runs and two RBIs for the Ricochet. Ariel Smith was 2 for 3 with a double for the Wildfire.

The Northwest Wildfire (Comack) fell 7-1 to the Idaho Heat of Eagle. Theresa Moyle went 2 for 3 with a triple and two RBIs for the Heat, and Kelly Driscoll struck out 10 and allowed three hits.

Other games:

Red Hots (Nampa) 10, LC Bombers (Lewiston) 6: Allie Byron struck out four in three innings of relief for the Red Hots. Amanda Trenkel was 2 for 3 with two runs, and Kirsten Calkins added a two-run double in the win.

Idaho Racers (Boise) 10, Idaho Impact (Pocatello) 7: Eden Cook struck out 11 for the Racers, and Kate Renfro was 2 for 4 with two RBIs and two stolen bases. Taylor Ferguson of the Impact was 3 for 4 with two runs.

Idaho Sliders (Eagle) 11, Red Hots 2: Kasy Marshall went 2 for 2 with a triple, two RBIs and three runs in the win. Hannah Renfro was 2 for 2 with two runs and three stolen bases, and Megan Browar pitched a two-hitter and struck out seven.

Play in the double-elimination tournament continues today and concludes Sunday.
