Galena goes to round-the-clock schedule

A new 24/7 schedule at the Galena Mine started Sunday with an aim toward increased productivity, said mine manager Steve Long.

He said rotating 11.5-hour shifts will result in miners working 14 days in a 28-day period. It guarantees the employees 80 hours per pay period, maximizes the number of weekends and maintains a healthy work-life balance.

"The miners will be focusing more on higher grade areas of the mine as well, and the mine will be open seven days a week instead of five," he said.

There are 380 employees at the Galena Mine, including 80 salaried employees. The hourly employees consist of mill and maintenance workers and miners.
