Man arrested for assault, obstructing

POST FALLS - A 19-year-old Hayden man was arrested Tuesday morning for allegedly assaulting another male before he barricaded himself in a Post Falls home and damaged the residence with a baseball bat.

Reed J. Alefteras was booked into jail for aggravated battery, assault, obstructing and malicious injury to property after the alleged incident on Pawnee Drive.

The victim told police he had been struck in the back of his head with a glass object while he was sleeping. He was treated at Kootenai Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.

The victim told police that he and Alefteras had been taking hits of "acid."

Alefteras was also transported to the hospital for minor injuries sustained when six police officers attempted to contain him using multiple methods, including using a K-9, firing bean bags and deploying a Taser stun gun. He was allegedly uncooperative with hospital staff.

According to police reports, Alefteras was inside screaming words that were "completely irrational and incoherent" when they arrived at the home at 5:40 a.m. A third person at the home was allegedly uncooperative with police during questioning and was restrained.

Backup officers were called when they heard something that sounded like an aluminum bat drop inside the home and items being broken.

"We gave (Alefteras) numerous commands to come outside with his hands up, but he would not listen to any directions and continued yelling nonsense," a police report states.

"All officers on scene believed they were dealing with somebody heavily under the influence of a controlled substance."

Alefteras twice came out momentarily, only to go back inside and shut the door.

After about 40 minutes, officers entered the unlocked home after they learned Alefteras had left the bat in the kitchen and was sitting on the couch by the front door.

After Alefteras allegedly didn't obey commands to get on the floor and was combative with officers, a K-9, bean bags and a Taser were used at different moments, but all were unsuccessful in controlling him, the report states.

Finally, multiple officers, a drive stun and the use of a baton were combined to control him enough to make an arrest.

"This entire contact of trying to gain control of the male took approximately three minutes with six officers," the report states.

Alefteras is on probation for grand theft.
