PREP GIRLS BASKETBALL: Sandpoint beats Lakeland in region tourney opener

SANDPOINT - Josie Coder scored 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting with four assists for Lakeland, which lost to Sandpoint 56-47 in the opening round of the 4A Region 1 tournament Tuesday night at Les Rogers Court.

Sandpoint (13-8) will play at Moscow (6-11) on Thursday, with the winner clinching a berth in the championship game. Lakeland (3-17) will face the loser next Tuesday in a loser-out game.

Kelly Ramus had 10 points and five rebounds and Jordan Ward added eight points and four steals for Lakeland.

"We just dug an early hole and stopped executing in the fourth quarter," Lakeland coach Steve Seymour said. "Josie did a good job of getting to the hoop and hitting a few big shots."

Hailey Olin scored 11 points and Cassie Young 10 points for Sandpoint.

KELLOGG — Jessica Norlander scored 14 points as the Tigers outlasted the Wildcats in overtime of an Intermountain League game at Andrews Gymnasium.

The win snapped a 10-game losing streak for Timberlake (3-15, 1-5 IML), which travels to St. Maries on Thursday for a makeup game.

Kenadie Arthur scored 14 points for Kellogg (8-7, 2-3), which travels to Priest River on Thursday.

PLUMMER — Jordan Browning made two free throws with less than 6 seconds remaining to lift the Miners past the Knights in a North Star League game.

Christina Nilson scored 15 points for Lakeside, which trailed 28-14 at halftime and rallied to take the lead late in the game.

“I want to commend my girls for battling back and fighting back into the game,” Lakeside coach Stacey Sonder said. “We can’t score in single digits in one quarter. We need double digits in each quarter so this stuff doesn’t happen. It was a good, well-played game. They deserved it and deserved to win.”

Avery Brown-Sonder scored 10 points for Lakeside (11-9, 5-3 NSL), which faces Wallace again on Monday in the first game of the best-of-3 1A District 1 Division I tournament at Lake City High at 7:30 p.m.

Emily Nelson scored 12 points for Wallace (11-8, 6-1), which travels to Clark Fork on Saturday.
