Hope Newman vies for title of Idaho State Youth of the Year
A local youth is among five teens from Boys & Girls Clubs throughout the state who will vie for the title of Idaho State Youth of the Year and $4,500 in scholarships on Feb. 28 in Boise.
Hope Newman from the Boys & Girls Club of Kootenai County will compete for Youth of the Year, the highest honor a Boys & Girls Club member can receive.
It recognizes the recipient's outstanding contributions to family, school, community and the Boys & Girls Club while overcoming significant personal challenges and obstacles.
Also competing for the title are Fernando Chaidez of the Boy & Girls Clubs of Nampa; Merisa Garcia of the Boys & Girls Club of Magic Valley; Elizabeth Fernandez representing the Lapwai Branch of the Boys & Girls Club of Lewis Clark Valley and Olyvia Border of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Ada County.
The competition includes judged speeches and personal interviews at the Capitol building, followed by the award presentation during the Legislators' luncheon.
