NIC softball team finishes 3-4 at season-opening tourney

LAS VEGAS - Shelby Carter hit a three-run home run to give the North Idaho College softball team the lead for good in a 6-3 win against Yavapai in their final game of the Kickoff Classic on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday, Hunter Allen struck out nine and Jordan Zumwalt had two hits for NIC (3-4) in an 8-4 loss to El Paso.
Emily Perlich finished the weekend with 50 strikeouts in five games for NIC, which returns to action against Salt Lake on Feb. 8-9 in St. George, Utah.
