Father, daughter injured during accident

HAYDEN — A 38-year-old Coeur d'Alene man and his 3-year-old daughter were injured during a single-vehicle accident in Hayden on Sunday afternoon.

According to the Kootenai County Sheriff's Office, Timothy J. Freund was driving a four-door 2013 Hyundai Sonata south on Avondale Loop at Miles Avenue at 3:30 p.m. when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle went left of center and into a large fir tree.

Fruend was transported to Kootenai Medical Center, while his daughter was transported to Sacred Heart Medical Center in Spokane. Both were in stable condition this morning.

Alcohol is believed to be a factor in the crash, according to the KCSO.

The girl was wearing a seatbelt in a car seat in the back, but the car seat was not properly installed, according to the KCSO.

"It went forward and she struck her head on the front seat," KCSO Lt. Stu Miller said, adding that he didn't know if Freund was wearing a seatbelt.

No citations had been issued as of this morning. An investigation, including on the estimated speed, continues.

"There were no skid marks, so determining the speed is a little more difficult," Miller said.

The road conditions are not believed to be a factor, Miller said.
