Arthur Thomas Wood, 92

Beloved husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, Arthur Thomas Wood, went to be with the Lord Jan. 22, 2013, at The Hospice House in Hayden.

Art was born Jan. 5, 1921, near Van Buren, Ark. Art was the son of Robert and Mary (Roberts) Wood. He attended schools in Arkansas and California. He married J.Earl “Jerri” Juanita Stewart on Sept. 7, 1940, in Morgan Hill, Calif.

Art served in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) in 1937 and 1938 near Grand Junction, Colo. His careers consisted of lumberjack, carpenter and working for the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) for 21 years. After retirement, Art and Jerri moved to Post Falls in 1989 from Sacramento, Calif. Art was a member of The Community Presbyterian Church in Post Falls, the Post Falls Historical Society, the Society of Real Estate Appraisers, a past member of the Post Falls Eagles and a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA). He was also on the Board of Directors for the Youth For Christ organization in central California.

Art loved and enjoyed his family. He gave all of his grandchildren a nickname. He also enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, horseback riding and working on his 1946 Willys Jeep. His other interests included traveling to Civil War battlegrounds, gardening, playing guitar and singing.

Art is survived by his beloved wife of 72 years, J.Earl Juanita Wood of the family home in Post Falls; three children, Ron (Sheila) Wood of Pinehurst, Diane (Bob) Holley of Post Falls and Juanita (Ed) Holley of Loyalton, Calif.; nine grandchildren, 26 great-grandchildren and one brother-in-law, Thomas (Wanda) Waterson of Turlock, Calif. He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother; two sisters; one infant daughter, Virginia Ann Wood and one great-grandson, Brock Wayne Wood.

A funeral service will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, Feb. 8, 2013, at English Funeral Chapel, 1700 N. Spokane St., Post Falls, with the Rev. Douglas Waltar officiating. Interment will be held at Evergreen Cemetery in Post Falls. A reception for family and friends will be held at the Community Presbyterian Church at noon.

Art will be greatly missed and remembered for his terrific sense of humor, his quick wit and his great love for his family. His quiet, wise and loving influence is a standard we will all live by.

In honor of Art’s memory, the family suggests that memorials may be made in Arthur’s name to the Hospice of North Idaho, 9493 N. Government Way, Hayden, ID 83835.
