The Coeur d'Alene School District administrative offices will be the new occupant of the 21,500-square-foot building at 1400 Northwood Center Court in mid-February following the exodus of the occupants whose names are still on the building sign. Although a more central location than the school's long-time home at 311 N. 10th St., the new place is a bit awkward to find; it's north off Ironwood Drive east of Northwest Boulevard on the same road that goes into Outback Steakhouse.

The administration's new space is nearly double the old place, which is crowded for 66 employees. It will be demolished to provide a play area for the adjacent Sorensen Elementary School. Hours will remain 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Thursday and 7:30 to 4:30 Fridays. Phone 664-8241.

Three occupants leave Northwood

The civil engineering firm of Tri-State Consulting Engineers is moving from the above building to Suite 103 of the Riverstone Two building at 1859 N. Lakewood Drive. With six employees, the six-year-old company offers expertise on property management, developing properties and water and sewer needs. Principal owner is Steve Syrcle. Hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Phone 665-9502.

The full-service law firm of Elsaesser Jarzabek Anderson Elliott Macdonald and Fegelein is moving Monday to Suite 102 of the Global Credit Union building at 320 E. Neider Ave. (across from CostCo).

Bruce Anderson and two staff members represent the firm in Coeur d'Alene, and it has five attorneys and 10 staff members in the main office in Sandpoint. Hours here are 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. weekdays. Phone 667-2900.

Tomlinson Sotheby's International Realty has moved to 221 E. Sherman Ave. Hours are 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sundays. Phone 667-1551.

Appleway Quicklube reopens

After a complete upgrade, Appleway Quicklube and Carwash reopens Monday at W. 1100 Appleway (next to Coeur d'Alene Tractor). The full-service auto lubrication business under manager Mike Kennedy is open 8 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. weekdays and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturdays. Phone 765-1265.

Now for the Tidbits

- "Full-steam ahead" was all a spokesman for WinCo would say regarding plans for the new grocery store's multi-acre site at The Crossroads development bounded by Appleway, Ramsey Road and Marie Avenue. The plan comprises a huge main building with three occupants and six business pads.

- The Hayden Corner Store (convenience store, deli and wine market) at Fourth Street and Prairie Avenue won't open until April. More later.

- A female can be a "pal" or "buddy" although the dictionary says these "good friend" terms are usually associated with males.

- A reader wants to remind us that "few" (a countable amount) and "less" (usually a measured amount) are not interchangeable.

- Another reader emailed that a person with blond hair sometimes is called "flaxen-haired" since flax is yellow and "tow" is another word for flax or hemp. Hmm. Almost 50 years ago my Montana journalism professor said my hair looked like "low-grade flax." Wish it still did.

- She was only a whiskey maker, but he loved her still.
