PREP WRESTLING: Post Falls Rumbles to victory
COEUR d'ALENE - On the strength of seven champions, Post Falls won the third annual North Idaho Rumble at Coeur d'Alene High, which concluded Saturday.
Alius De La Rosa (106 pounds), Peter Berger (113), Drake Foster (120), Tannar Riekena (132), Seth McLeod (170), Cody Johnson (182) and Justin Farnsworth (220) won titles for Post Falls, which totaled 226 points. Coeur d'Alene was second with 161, Bonners Ferry third with 146.
"They went after it, scored a lot of points, scored a lot of pins. It was a great showing for us," Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. "Drake Foster had a great tournament, and Cody Johnson had an awesome finals match."
Anthony Price (98), Gabe Ross (160) and Matt James (285) won titles for Coeur d'Alene.
"We finished second, and had three champions, a runner-up and two fourth places," Vikings coach Jeff Moffat said. "We did well, but there is room for improvement.
"I'm happy with the way we wrestled."
Blaine Invernon of Bonners Ferry, who won at 138, was named the tourney's outstanding wrestler.
Lake City had two placers, including Nick Wells, who won at 126, beating Kody Hongslo of Timberlake in overtime.
Other champions: Chris Vergobbi, Kellogg (145); Joe Bloomsburg, St. Maries (152); and Carman Krichbaum, Bonners Ferry (195).
"We ended up sixth, and all in all I was happy with how we wrestled," Timberlake coach Ryan Montang said. "We pretty much placed everyone we brought."
"Kody Hongslo (126) wrestled really solidly throughout the tournament and was in control of the final match until late," Montang said.
Post Falls plays host to defending state 5A champion Lewiston on Wednesday.
Coeur d'Alene is off until Feb. 8, when the Vikings host Lewiston.
Lake City hosts Post Falls and Bonners Ferry on Thursday.
Timberlake is back in action on Friday at Weiser.
