PREP ROUNDUP: Quick start sparks Trojans to big win over Vikings
* WRESTLING
POST FALLS - The Post Falls Trojans won the first six matches - the last four by pins - and jumped out to a 30-0 lead en route to a 56-22 triumph over the Coeur d'Alene Vikings on Thursday night at The Arena.
Drake Foster (who moved up a weight class to 126), Tannar Riekena (132), Tyler Mahal (138) and Stephen Ost (145) had pins during that opening blitz for Post Falls (14-2), ranked second in 5A by IdahoWrestlingNews.com.
"It definitely was a great momentum starter," Post Falls coach Pete Reardon said. "Those guys right out of the gate got us started. We were moving some kids around to fill some spots, and that was great for us."
Two of the better wrestlers in the state went at it at 170. Seth McLeod of Post Falls led Hudson Staub of Coeur d'Alene 1-0 in the third period when McLeod scored the pin at 4 minutes, 35 seconds.
"Seth kind of waited for his opportunity," Reardon said. "And once he found his opening, he took it and got the pin."
Gabe Ross (160) and Matt James (285) each won by pin for Coeur d'Alene (7-3), which is ranked eighth.
"Pretty disappointed," Vikings coach Jeff Moffat said. "They're a great team; we don't match up with them well. I don't think we competed very well. They were fired up; we've beaten them quite a few years, and they were hungry to get after us. Their dual team, there's no holes in their lineup."
Reardon said Peter Berger also moved up a weight and won by decision at 120. He also had praise for Mahal, for finishing off his match with a pin, and Cody Johnson (182), for recording three takedowns in the third period to win by major decision.
"Our kids continue to step up to the challenge," Reardon said.
Both teams are in the 13-team North Idaho Rumble at Coeur d'Alene High, which begins today at 4:30 with wrestling in 16-man brackets.
The tourney resumes Saturday with consolation rounds at 9 a.m., followed by the semifinals at 11;30 and the finals at 5 p.m.

"He's only a freshman, and he's stepping up and making things happen," Montang said of Reimer.
