Education group to host “State of the District”

| January 24, 2013 9:35 AM

The Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership will hold a “State of the District” community forum next week featuring presentations by members of the Coeur d’Alene School District central office administrative staff.

The event will take place Wednesday from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. in the Community Room at the Coeur d’Alene Public Library.

“Our goal with this event is to foster increased dialogue between the community and the district” said CEP President Amy Evans, in a press release. “As an independent nonprofit dedicated to advocating for excellence in public education, we feel that an annual event like this will give the community a chance to hear directly from the District administration on current topics of interest.”

Presenters include Superintendent Hazel Bauman who will discuss the upcoming maintenance and operations levy as well as the current overall status of the district. Associate Superintendent Matthew Handelman will discuss the pending revisions to the Common Core curriculum. In addition, Chief Operating Officer Wendell Wardell will present information on the upcoming remodels of Winton, Sorenson, Bryan, Borah, and Canfield schools. The architecture firm designing the remodels for Sorenson and Canfield, Architects West, has also been invited to attend. The final topic of the forum will be a panel discussion led by Bauman on public safety in our schools and how our community can assist in keeping our schools safe.

Each topic presentation will be followed by a public question and answer session moderated by CEP members.

“The CEP board feels that the public education system is a cornerstone of economic development in our region” said Coeur d’Alene Education Partnership Vice President Jason Wing. “We encourage the business community to attend and voice their support for excellence in public education.”

The general public, parents, teachers, students, and all community stakeholders are encouraged to attend.

Refreshments will be provided.
