PREP BASKETBALL ROUNDUP: Charter's Turkenburg eclipses 1,000-point mark
* GIRLS
SPOKANE VALLEY - Senior guard Lexi Turkenburg eclipsed the 1,000-point mark with a free throw in the first quarter as the Coeur d'Alene Charter Academy Panthers defeated the Valley Christian Panthers 57-37 in a nonleague basketball game on Tuesday.
"It's just incredible," Coeur d'Alene Charter coach Doug Grant said. "Really, to me, 1,000 is a reward for the dedication and work she's put in to the sport. She goes hard from the first minute to the last minute, and is just an incredible player."
Turkenburg finished with 24 points, seven rebounds and five assists, and now has 1,023 career points. Jacklyn Jensen scored 16 points and Emma Ployhar had eight rebounds for Coeur d'Alene Charter (14-2), which hosts Grangeville on Saturday at Holy Family Catholic School.
"Tonight, our team as a whole just fed off that," Grant said of Turkenburg's milestone. "We just played a solid game on both ends of the floor and just rebounded the ball well. Things just clicked and everything just came together."
Lindy Riggan scored 29 points for Valley Christian.
