HELP: Locals again answer call
I am once again reminded what a loving and giving community we live in. On Jan. 17, I contacted the Coeur d’Alene Press about the increasing number of cold and hungry people we are seeing at the St. Vincent de Paul HELP Center, in our shelters and our warming center. The CDA Press ran an article asking our community to help supply food for the men, women and children who are cold and hungry coming to our facilities. As the article stated, with the cold weather and lack of affordable housing our numbers have increased dramatically this winter for those in need.
On Thursday and Friday our community came together. Both food and money came through our doors from young and old, people who answered our call. The canned food is wonderful each day for our crock pot. The snacks work well for those needing something to take with them in their back packs. With the money received, we will be able to buy some fresh fruit and vegetables which we know are a luxury for many who are homeless or with a tight budget.
From our Board President Linda Mitchell, our Board of Directors, Executive Director Jeff Conroy, and all of our staff and volunteers, THANK YOU for helping our friends and neighbors in need.
